Donna & Travis tie the knot! Part 2 {Adelaide Wedding Photographer}

Yay! So it’s time to share part 2 of this gorgeous wedding!

It truly was a fantastic day! The bride was stunning, her girls all gorgeous. The groom didn’t scrub up too bad, along with all his mates! There were gorgeous little girls in their dresses, and cutie pie little dudes in their suits!

Sometimes it’s hard being a wedding photographer….. really hard…..

Donna_Wedding_Blog_10 When you have a subject this gorgeous….. choosing what photos to show off!!! :P

The ceremony was held at the beautiful Cummins House Glenelg. The details from the gorgeous archway, to the red carpet, to the signing table was perfect. Simply perfect!

One of my ALL TIME FAVOURITE things in weddings are “the looks”. The looks that pass between Bride and Groom, quite often at the altar, but other places also. The looks that simply say “I love you”

After the ceremony, and family photos we were given the 10 minute warning by the limousine driver! EEK!!! So it was a mad dash around the gardens as all our carefully laid plans were rushed away with the wind! But even so we still managed a few beautiful shots, despite the groomsmens attempts to thwart me from my mission with uncouth jokes!

I then sent the bridal party on their way….

After that we headed down to the beach to kick off our shoes and have a little fun!

Once again I have to say an enormus thank you to my fabulous “bag lady” Shana! Who knows what I’d do without her! She’s the on you never see, but she’s always there, holding sunnies, straightening veils, sneaking sips from the guys’ beers! Also a big shout out to the wonderful Heidi of Heidi K Photography! Thanks for being my second shooter for the day!

And finally thank you Donna & Travis. I had such a wonderful day with you guys! You are a fabulous couple and to watch the love between you was something special for me! I hope you enjoy your sneak peeks!

Travis & Donna tie the knot!!! {Adelaide Wedding Photographer}

So, I have learnt that every wedding I photograph is different. Every wedding is definitely unique. No two weddings could ever possibly be the same. After a wedding, especially if I’ve shot with my ab-fab bestie Shana, we have a bit of  de-brief in the car on the way home. We talk about the things we liked, about the things we LOVED and the bits that made us “pee in our pants with laughter”. Well that was our car ride home on Saturday evening. We laughed, and laughed, and laughed. Then after the car ride, we sat at Sushi Train and laughed some more! Donna & Travis day was just wonderful! Filled with love, laughter and plenty of good cheer!

You may remember Donna & Travis from their earlier “E – session”. Well their big day had finally arrived! To say I was excited would have been an understatement! I never tire of seeing the amazing transformation that take place on a woman’s wedding day! Of course I was expecting Donna to look beautiful, but WOAH! She looked absolutely stunning! Her girls were all primping and fussing around her, and this is where we started our day!

Donna’s parents had been taking extra special care of their garden before the wedding in anticipation of some photos being taken there! A boy was it a lovely setting for us!

Flowers! Gorgeous flowers! (Surely you all know how much i adore them by now right?!?!)

Then we headed over Travis’ mums house to greet the boys! (And of course check out the bling)

Donna_Wedding_Blog06

Donna_Wedding_Blog02

They had organised the most fantastic car I’ve ever seen! The Stretch Chrysler Limo. Hot Hot Hot!

Donna_Wedding_Blog04

After the ceremony (which I laughed my way through!) we headed down to the beach. I was worried the girls wouldn’t be keen on taking off their shoes…. but it was a mad scramble to see who could jump out theirs quicker!

Donna_Wedding_Blog03

We then headed back over to The Pier Plaza Glenelg. The staff were happy to provide food and drinks for the bridal party who at this stage were FAMISHED!

Donna_Wedding_Blog07

Unfortunately they only thought to provide us with 1 key / lift pass so there were 13 (Donna & Travis + 4 girls, 4 boys, + 3 photographers)… crammed all together in a lift! Nice way to get “cosy”! LOL!

The reception itself was held in The Beachside Room which was just perfect!

Donna_Wedding_Blog08

And finally the cake! *sigh* – I was so sad not to be hanging around to eat this one! ;)

Donna_Wedding_Blog09

One last one before I sign off for tonight!

Travis & Donna, thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of your special day! It was such a wonderful day, and the vibe was so much “fun”! I hope you enjoy your details shots and can’t wait to show just how fabulous you guys looked!

Check back soon!

Ps. A HUGE shout out once again to the fabulous Shana, and this time we were lucky enough to have the wonderful Heidi from Heidi K Photography come along for the ride! But more about that later. ;)

Perfection Part 2 {Adelaide Wedding Photographer}

Here we are with (the long awaited) part deux of the perfect wedding of Catherine & Robin.

Our day started out at the beautiful McLaren Vale Studio Apartments, where I met the gorgeous Catherine,

Catherine_wedding_blog_12

and her good friend Samara.

Catherine_wedding_blog_15

Such a gorgeous little apartment with beautiful little hidey holes!

Catherine_wedding_blog_09

From there we headed over to the breathtaking Penny’s Hill Winery. Where I met the handsome groom awaiting his bride, with an overwhelmed little princess by his side.

_MG_3077

After the ceremony we headed out to the beautiful vineyards.

_MG_3227

Aren’t they just a beautiful couple?

Catherine_wedding_blog_16

A couple of individual shots.

Catherine_wedding_blog_14Catherine_wedding_blog_10

Ahhhh….. golden fields, a beautiful bride, a handsome groom… what more could a photographer ask for?

Catherine_wedding_blog_13

My highlight of the day was watching Catherine & Robin interact. Wether it be Robin’s hand on the small of Catherine’s back, lovingly guiding her as she walked, or Catherine’s adoring gaze upon Robin as they stood patiently waiting for me to set up.

Catherine_wedding_blog_11

And of course we must end on a family photo, and the divine Miss Grace!

Catherine_wedding_blog_17

Catherine & Robin, I’m so thankful, you chose me to be your wedding photographer. I had such a wonderful day, and it was pure joy photographing you guys. I hope your future is full of everything you wish for and more!

Once again a HUGE shout out  to the fabulous Shana! What I’d do without your “primping” and “fluffing”, and general help I have no idea!

Gone forever. Never forgotten.

Every moment your heart is moved is precious. Stop everything else you’re doing & pay careful attention.

One last heartbeat, one last breath, and then silence. Nothing. 7.45am this morning. February 8 2010

This morning our beautiful Granny took her last breath and left us all. She finally believed us that we’d be okay, and went on to be with Poppy. Pain free. I am so glad to see her fly free at last. But I miss her so dearly. The mere thought that I will never see her face to face again is a physical pain. So deep.

I have the need, the desire to write so much, but not the words to say. The last few days have been the most emotional days I have ever experienced as a person. I am forever changed from this experience.

My husband. I am so very proud of him. Oh how it pained him to see his Granny, a mere shell of the vibrant woman she once was, lying helpless on that hospital bed. However he was determined that he would be there for her as much as physically possible. He kept a bedside vigil, pulling a couple of 24 hour stints just so she would feel his presence. He left the hospital this morning at 7am. Granny passed at 7.45am. I believe this to be her final gift to him. She has always been thoughtful like that.

To be surrounded, almost bombarded by people in her final hours. Surely that is a testament to what a beautiful person she was. Her Sons, her daughter, her brother & sisters, her grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends. Granny touched the lives of so many, and so many wanted to give the only gift they could. Love. It was palpable, you could actually feel the love as it surrounded this amazing, wonderful woman. When it’s my turn to go, I can only hope to be surrounded by the amount of love as what Granny was. Even the nurses were commenting on how lovely it was to see so many around her bedside.

There are so many moments that will stay with me forever. So good, some bad, some just plain beautiful. But before I get into them I need to say a huge thank you. The love my family and I have been surrounded in these past few days has been just the biggest blessing. My sister Hayley, and her husband Shaun watched the kids for me yesterday afternoon / evening which allowed me to go and sit. Sit next to Peter, next to Granny and spend a few hours just being. My sister in law Catherine, took my older 3 on friday and let them sleep over, while Shana had Declan. That enabled us to spend the entire night with Granny. Holding her hand. I will be forever grateful for that gift.

A few of the standout moments for me:

Great Uncle Mel. Granny’s brother. He is one of the best story tellers I have ever met. Thank you for lightening the mood. Granny would have laughed along with us at your stories.

Thurs afternoon, Uncle Brett (I think), thinking he’s doing the right thing leans over to Granny and says, “Mum I love you, it’s time for you to be with Dad. Just go to sleep.” Granny struggles to open her eyes and says, “I’m not going anywhere yet.”! LOL oh poor Brett!

Fri evening, Granny asking for her boys one by one. She could do no more then whisper their names. But she looked into their eyes, and they into hers, words didn’t need to be spoken. Raw emotion did the job.

Fri around midnight, Granny briefly woke, my cousin Bronwyn took her hand and told Granny she loved her. Granny mouthed back “I love you” and made kiss lips, Pete then said, “Granny, it’s Pete here. I love you so much”, to which she raised her hand and simply placed it on his cheek.

There are so many more, but right now, it pains me too much to write about them.

Aunty Jacky & Uncle John. You guys are my new found heros. Aunty Jacky, I can not imagine how hard it has been for you watching your mother slowly slip away, yet you stood by, a strong firm rock at her side. You did everything you possibly could to make sure she was comfortable and relaxed. You have taught me so much about love, true, unwavering love, these last few days. John, being the constant support that Jacky needed. Just so beautiful to watch. You guys are amazing and I love you so much.

Bronwyn, you beautiful soul. I would cry, just simply seeing your face. You’re no good at hiding your feelings! But I so strongly admire the fact that it hurt, it hurt you so bad, yet you stayed with her, made her comfortable and spoke to her as often as you could. The most beautiful gift you could ever give your Granny. I will hold our time spent together Friday night close to my heart forever.

Uncle Brett & Gen. Your strength is astounding. I will so deeply cherish Sunday afternoon spent with you Pete & Granny. Brett the tenderness in the way you spoke to your Mum, the love in your eyes. It is something I will never forget. Gen, I could see how much you love Granny, for her to put her trust in you and to look after her “Little Brett” shows just how much she loved you in return. You are a beautiful person, not only a blessing to Uncle Brett, but to all of us.

Ayla. Wow. There is literally nothing more I can say. This young woman is a single mother to 2 beautiful children. She would be a Mum during the day, then once the kids were in bed, she’d have somebody watch them and spend the night with Granny. She didn’t ever have to say much. You could see by her actions how deeply she cared for her Granny. You are an inspiration Ayla. I count myself blessed to have been able to spend so much time with you.

Uncle Robert, Uncle Mark & Uncle Dean, you beautiful people. To watch you bathe your Mum in love and kindness, was truly a beautiful sight. To see big, almost burley, grown men treat their Mum with the upmost respect and most of all love, well it’s not something that you see every day.

All the cousins, grandchildren & great grandchildren I have met over the last few days. You guys are simply beautiful. To stop your busy lives to come and spend time with Granny. Thank you.

And finally I can not do a blog post with out a couple of photos.

Firstly the stupid parking ticket machine. Oh how I grew to hate this machine! The amount of money this stupid machine devoured…

stupid-parking-machine

The corridor, the dreaded corridor. The first walk down, not knowing what would await our arrival. The subsequent walks, never knowing what was just around the corner. Late night pacing. Pulling myself together in this corridor so I could sit next to Granny with a smile.

hallway

And finally, the Granny I will always remember.

Granny1

She didn’t find a cure for aids, didn’t stop world hunger and she didn’t cause world peace. However she was a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a great grandmother, and above all, she was a friend. And in that she was the best friend a person could ask for.

RIP Granny. Love you always. xxx

*NB* – Thank you to all my clients for your support during this time. The emails and texts I have received have meant  so much. I aim on getting through the backlog of emails of the next couple of days and blogging will resume as normal.

Beautiful Grandma

So…. you know how in life there are people that are beautiful, so beautiful that you are a better person just for being around them? Well that’s Pete’s granny for you! She is a beautiful soul whom I just adore.

I first met her in 2001, Pete and I had only been dating for a few weeks. Pete had been prepping me all day for this visit and I couldn’t understand why! Granny’s always love me! I had no idea that her approval could make or break the relationship!

We walked in the door she took one look at me and said “Oh Pj, you’ve found a decent one at last!”…. And thus began our friendship.

Grandma means the world to us. She has 7 children, a whole stack of grandchildren, and now a quickly growing list of great grandchildren. She never forgets a birthday, never goes unheard from at Christmas.

We celebrated with her as she had her second chance at “Happily Ever After”. (Grandpa – her first husband died back in the 90′s). She loved Ron more than life itself, and he would move mountains just to make her smile. Unfortunately all good things must come to an end and we mourned alongside Granny as we buried “Poppy” – aka Ron. The second time she had to bury a husband.

Granny is a fighter and has soldiered on these years, living life to it’s fullest! Never one to let circumstances get her down.

Last September we received a call that turned our life upside down. Granny had cancer. Pancreatic cancer at that. Devastated would have been an understatement. However she has fought long and hard. December saw a huge family reunion. Brothers, Sisters, Cousins, Uncle’s & Aunt’s flew in from around the country. It was an awesome night. Granny was so blessed just being surrounded by those she loved the most. I will never forget her smiles on that night.

However her time is drawing near. Life now hurts. She is in hospital and not expected to come home. We are off tomorrow to spend the day by her bedside and just sit.

A million and one emotions roll through me tonight. I am so happy that she’s had the wonderful, beautiful life she’s had, however for my own, selfish reasons, I’m not ready for that life to end. I’m sad that our kids will only have vague memories of the awesome woman she is. I’m so blessed to call her family.

LOVE YOU SO MUCH GRANNY! xxx

granny Our kids call her “Cheese & Crackers Granny”. When she gets worked up, instead of cursing she blurts out “Oh Cheese and crackers!”

Just a heads up to my wonderful clients, I wont be around much the next couple of days. Thanks for your understanding. xx
